Altera Announces DSP Co-Processing Kit Featuring Cyclone II FPGA and TI's ADS5500 Data Converter
TI DEVELOPER CONFERENCE, HOUSTON, Feb. 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Altera Corporation (NASDAQ: ALTR) today announced its new DSP Development Kit, Cyclone(TM) II Edition featuring Altera's low-cost Cyclone II FPGAs, Texas Instruments' (TI's) high-performance ADS5500 analog-to-digital converters (ADCs), and an interface to TI's DSP Starter Kits (DSKs). The kit allows engineers to design, prototype, and debug digital signal processing (DSP) co- processing applications for wireless infrastructure, medical diagnostic, imaging, and test and measurement equipment. Altera will demonstrate the kit at the TI Developer Conference at booth #401.
"Combining Altera's low-cost FPGAs with our analog components expertise provides designers with the tools to quickly develop a design in a variety of applications at an affordable price," said Ed Fullman, marketing manager for TI's high-speed data converter products.
DSP Development Kit, Cyclone II Edition
The DSP Development Kit, Cyclone II Edition provides a comprehensive platform including a development board, the latest version of The Mathworks' Simulink software, and Altera's DSP Builder and Quartus(R) II design software. In addition to the ADS5500 ADC, the development board utilizes a number of other TI devices including digital-to-analog converters (DACs), audio codecs, and power management ICs to meet the power supply requirements of the Cyclone II device and other on-board components. The development board has an external memory interface (EMIF) connector to interface directly with TI's DSKs, facilitating the development of TI DSP and Cyclone II FPGA-based co-processor designs.
"Cyclone II devices are ideal for implementing FPGA co-processors for TI DSPs. This new development kit addresses the needs of many designers looking for an affordable platform to help bring their designs to market quickly," said Justin Cowling, Altera's director of marketing for IP and technology marketing. "The expertise and technical contributions provided by TI's analog group further enhance the capabilities of this kit."
Pricing and Availability
The DSP Development Kit, Cyclone II Edition will ship in the second quarter of 2005 and will be priced at $995. More information about this product can be found at http://www.altera.com/products/devkits/altera/kit-dsp-2C35.html.
